Bleckner, Ross Ross Bleckner ist 1949 In New York City geboren. 1971 schloss er seinen Bachelor of Arts an der N.Y. Universität, und 1973 seinen Master of Fine Arts am California Institue of the Arts, ab. Ross Bleckner's Malerei mischt Abstraktion mit erkennbaren Symbolen, um Meditationen von Vorstellung, Überlegenheit und Einbusse zu erzeugen.
Im Gegensatz zu vielen prominenteren Malern der achtziger Jahre, die sich neue Geltung verschaffen mussten, beharrte Bleckner in seinen Vesuchen herauszufinden, welche Bedeutung das abstrakte Abbild überzeugend in unser Zeit haben kann. Brothers' Swords , Illusion von ausstrahlendem Licht, bietet eine geheimnisvolle oder religiöse Assoziation und eine schauerliche Post-apokalytische Atmosphäre. Entgegengesetzt den vertikalen, weich leuchtenen roten Streifen ist ein schwarzer Streifen am oberen Ende des Gemäldes, dekoriert mit fleur de lis Verzierungen. Die Beerdigung des schwarzen Streifens unterbricht die jenseitig optische Erfahrung der Streifen als ob man nach Aufmerksamkeit für eine noch genauere Besorgnis oder Gedenkstätte ruft.
Bleckner's Gemälde leuchten und sind kontemplativ, ähneln Durchgängen ins Jenseits. Während die 80er fortschritten und AIDS seinen Tribut bei einem grossen Teil der Gesellschaft und besonders bei Bleckner's Freunden und Kollegen forderte, wurden seine Gemälde, inklusive Brother's Sword, Klagelieder spezifischer Verluste und Reflektionen von Trauerfällen.
